Lake Tahoe is a lake of natural beauty. The native americans called it Lake of the Sky.  It is surrounded by majestic mountains and 70 miles of shoreline.   It is the highest lake of it's size in North America.  It is 1600 feet in depth and has never been know to freeze.

Lake Tahoe is about 22 mi (35 km) long and l2 mi (19 km) wide and has 72 mi (116 km) of shoreline and a surface area of 191 mi2 (495 km2). The loor of the Lake Tahoe Basin is at an elevation of about 4,580 ft (1,396 m), which is lower than the surface of the Carson Valley to the east! With an average surface elevation of 6,225 ft (1,897 m) above sea level, Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States.

The water temperature near the surface generally cools to 40 to 50oF (4.5 to 10oC) during February and March and warms to 65 to 70oF (18 to 21oC) during August and September. Below a depth of 600 to 700 ft (183 to 213 m), the water temperature remains a constant 39oF (4.0oC).

There are many local and state parks to enjoy. Sugar Pine State Park and D.L. Bliss State Park to name a couple. You can rent kayaks, paddle boats, speed boats, watercraft and more at the many Marina'slocated around Lake Tahoe.

Sand Harbor is a well know beach that hosts the Shakespeare Festival every summer. 

Camp Richardson's beach is the longest stretch of sandy beaches and is well know for the Renaissance Festival which is held there every year. 

Emerald Bay was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1969.  It is a must see of Tahoe. 

Burton Creek State Park covers 2000 acres of land on the outskirts of Lake. 

Donner Lake is world famous for having the Donner Party pass over (or almost) the summit.  As written in history the party did not make it over the pass.  Today you can visit the Donner Lake Museum and watch the ocumentary. 

Nearby is Boca/Stampede Resorvior.  This water is in direct relation with the Truckee River.  Locals use this lake for fishing, water skiing, boating, etc. The

North Tahoe Area also offers great river kayaking and White Water Tours. There is the Yuba River, Truckee River and the American River to name a few near by.

In the summer months you can take a raft down the Truckee river from Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows!  There are several white water rafting companies that supply a great boating experience.

Get up, stand up
: Paddleboarding has come to Tahoe! This sport allows you to glide gracefully over the water and offers better great views of the rocks underneath. Plus, it's a killer core workout. 
 

There are many different subdivisions near lakes or rivers. Big Bend, Kingvale, Pla Vada, Serene Lakes, are all up on Donner Summit and give access to the Yuba River.  Donner Lake, Lahontan (Martis Creek & Fishing Pond), Prosser Lakeview Estates, Olympic Village (Squaw Creek), Meeks Bay, Tahoma, Homewood, Sunnyside, Tahoe City, Cedar Flat, Dollar Point, Tahoe vista, Agate Bay & Carnelian Bay.
