Lake Tahoe Travels To and From Their Luxury Homes

February 29, 2016 by David Gemme Leave a Comment

There are two new flights that directly affect the Bay Area-Lake Tahoe homeowner.

With JetBlue’s new direct flight from Reno to JFK, and Southwest Airlines to begin their direct flight from Oakland to Reno on June 5, 2016, it’s never been easier and faster to get up to beautiful Tahoe from home, and onwards to work should New York call your name.

While the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada hasn’t collected data yet on the economic impact of the flight, it’s safe to say it’s an added asset to any of us in Tahoe, and visitors alike coming to the area.

Tahoe Truckee Airport District recently sent out a mailer to all residents, reviewing finances, benefits, community impact. The airport is a special district of California, which means it is a “local, focused form of government lead by a five member elected board of Directors that provides services and facilities.”

The pamphlet states that it serves approximately 30,000 full-time residents, and 60,000 peak period visitors, providing service to private and charter aircraft, but no scheduled commercial flights. There is a voluntary curfew from 10:00 pm-7:00 am, which has been a huge noise-abatement benefit to the area.
The pamphlet’s purpose appears to be geared at reassuring residents that the cost to homeowners ($28 per $100,000 per county assessed value, per year) is justified. The airport states that they have contributed to numerous local non-profits, and programs, including the impending recreation pool in Truckee, a Mission to Mars Camp, offering a community meeting space, and the Boys and Girls Club Tahoe Chapter.

The Truckee-Tahoe Airport is host to the following services which run in and out of the airport: Careflight (750 operators) CHP, Regional Advanced, Life Support Transfer, CAL FIRE, USFS, Fish and Wildlife, US Navy, US Airforce, UC Marines Civil Air Patrol, and the Tahoe City Helipad.

The brochure also reviews the impact and complaints the airport received from local residents in 2015. Out of 27,585 operations last year, there were 463 comments received, from 75 households.

Do you have a comment regarding flying in and out of the Lake Tahoe area using the Tahoe Truckee private airport, or the Reno airport? We’d love to hear. Email us
